So I watched Videodrome this morning on Netflix Instant. I liked it. It was pretty damn creepy, the practical effects were good, and James Woods was really good as the main character. One of the main things that really added to the creepiness was the fact that the dialogue all seemed to be mixed to the left channel. I don’t know if that was intentional or not, but it really helped to get across the whole surreality there by having a disconnect between the video and audio that kinda forces you to pay attention. It also kind of works as some sort of body horror of the video form itself, this obvious wrongness that refuses to go away, that lingers.
So yeah, I liked it. I’d certainly recommend it, even if you’re not all that much of a horror guy. I’m not much of a horror guy either.
